THE TWENTY-SEVENTH NEW ORLEANS INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION

July 22-29, 2018

Loyola University, New Orleans

Twelve of the worlds most talented up-and-coming pianists are invited to New Orleans for a week of magnificent piano playing as semifinalists competing for performance and cash prizes totaling over $35,000. The NOIPC runs concurrently with the New Orleans Keyboard Festival and Piano Institute (NOPI) featuring masterclasses and recitals open to the public. Guest Artists Alexandre Moutouzkine, piano and Chloé Kiffer, violin will open the festival with a duo recital featuring the works of Stravinsky and Ravel inspired by Robert Craft's book Stravinsky: Discoveries & Memories.

Competition Description

The goal of the competition is to provide opportunities for the most gifted and communicative musicians to further their careers and to offer to the community an opportunity to discover the world’s finest pianistic talents. To this end, the Twenty-seventh New Orleans International Piano Competition (NOIPC) will be held in conjunction with the annual summer New Orleans Keyboard Festival (NOKF) and Piano Institute (NOPI), both hosted by the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans.

Competition Prizes
FIRST PRIZE

  • $15,000
    • ($5,000 cash award, $10,000 performance fees*)
  • Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra:
    • Season Subscription concert and Concerto Showcase
  • Acadiana Symphony Orchestra
  • Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra
  • Solo Recitals:
    • Solo Recital on the Tuesday Matinee Series in New York's Merkin Concert Hall for the 2019-2020 Season.
  • An exclusive one-on-one career development consultation with executive leadership at Astral Artists
SECOND PRIZE
  • $10,000
    • ($8,000 cash award, $2,000 performance fees)
  • Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra:
    • Concerto Showcase
  • Solo Recitals:
    • TBD
THIRD PRIZE
  • $5,000
    • ($4,000 cash award, $1,000 performance fee)
  • Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra:
    • Concerto Showcase
SEMIFINAL PRIZES
  • Nine (9) $750 each

*Performance engagements and their associated fees are offered the winners of the competition in good faith at the time of the competition by the auspices concerned. Final approval of artists, dates, and repertoire rests with artistic and administrative directors. The Musical Arts Society of New Orleans retains the right to rescind any and all performance engagements for any of (but not limited to) the following reasons:
1) Failure to honor the contracted date for the performance
2) Failure to represent the New Orleans International Piano Competition in the professional manner expected of its winner.
